Some places in Ibiza feel almost otherworldly, and Punta Galera is one of them. It’s not your typical sandy beach with cocktails on tap: there are no bars, no sunbeds, and definitely no frills. But what you get instead is something rare: pure, untouched beauty, raw nature, and a sunset that feels like a private show put on just for you.
Perched on the northwest coast near Sant Antoni, Punta Galera isn’t the easiest place to reach, but that’s part of the charm. It’s my favourite spot to catch the sunset. Do you want to know everything about Punta Galera? Keep reading since we’ll jump into all the details!
Where is Punta Galera?
Perched on the northwest coast near Sant Antoni, Punta Galera isn’t the easiest place to reach, but that’s part of the charm. It’s close to San Antonio but yet not many people know about it! This Google Maps shows you where to park your car:
Good to know: you’re Google Maps won’t help you if you look for “Punta Galera” since there’s another place in the north named that way. This is “Sa Punta Galera”, but who uses the Sa anyway. You can see two markers on the map and both are fine. Parking 1 has a rough last stretch but is very quiet, parking 2 is a bit better accessible but can be busier. And with parking I mean just roadside parking, since there are absolutely no facilities here!
The history of Punta Galera
The name “Punta Galera” loosely translates to “Flat Rocks,” and it’s easy to see why. Unlike any other beach on the island, this spot is a series of amber-hued rocky shelves jutting out like natural balconies over the Mediterranean. Each ledge offers a perfect little perch, where you can lay down a towel and claim your own slice of paradise. There’s no soft sand, so comfort takes a backseat, but honestly, you’ll be too mesmerized by the view to care.
It’s a series of natural rock formations stacked at different heights, cascading down towards the sea. Located near Cala Salada, together they create one of Ibiza’s most breathtaking coastal landscapes.
The Punta Galera bartender!
One of the quirkiest and most unexpected delights of Punta Galera is its unofficial “bartender”—a free-spirited, naked hippie who’s been serving up drinks from his cool box for years. Perched near the very tip of the rock formation, he lives a simple, bohemian life alongside his loyal dog, embracing the beauty of nature with zero frills. His setup is as unconventional as it gets: just a laid-back man, his four-legged companion, and a stash of refreshingly cold drinks, strategically placed between his legs.
When I first met him, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but his easygoing vibe and friendly smile made the experience all the more memorable. If you pass by, don’t just gawk but be friendly, have a chat, and maybe bring him a little gift or buy a drink to support his way of life.
I couldn’t resist grabbing an ice-cold mojito, and let me tell you, after basking in the sun on those hot, rocky ledges, it was exactly what I needed. This little encounter is just another reason why Punta Galera is unlike anywhere else.
Where else can you sip a homemade cocktail from a (sometimes) nude hippie while watching one of Ibiza’s most breathtaking sunsets?
The Majestic Rock Formations

How did these incredible rocks come to shape such a picturesque panorama? Geologically speaking, Punta Galera’s flat rocks, known to some as ‘Ses Roques Llises’, are the result of millennia of water and wind erosion, slowly carving through the limestone that’s characteristic of Ibiza’s geology. Over thousands of years, the elements have sculpted these stones into the flattened, smooth platforms we see today, offering not just a splendid view but also a natural terrace from which to enjoy the vibrant, ever-changing canvas of the sky.
What Makes Punta Galera Special?

The unique magnetism of Punta Galera lies in its fascinating juxtaposition of tranquility and raw, natural beauty. It’s not just a scenic sunset spot; it’s a haven where every hue in that magnificent descent of the sun casts a gentle glow on the surroundings, creating a magical palette that dances across the rocky landscape and tranquil waters. The sight of the sun softly sinking into the Balearic Sea, while you’re cradled in the warm, multi-hued embrace of the rocks, is simply an unmatched symphony of nature’s finest visuals.
