If you’re staying in a rental home or an apartment during your visit to Ibiza, the ability to cook your own meals can be more than just a cost-effective choice—it can also be a fun and memorable experience with friends and family. Especially for families traveling with kids, preparing a meal in the comfort of your accommodation is both practical and enjoyable.

The good news? Ibiza has no shortage of supermarkets, so there’s no need to worry about running out of food or drink. That said, navigating the stores on the island may require a bit of exploration for newcomers. To make it easier, here’s a helpful overview of Ibiza’s supermarkets and my personal go-to places for grocery shopping.

A Quick Tip Before You Shop

Before heading out, take a moment to check the kitchen equipment available in your accommodation. It’s common to find limited supplies. For instance, there’s no point in buying a delicious steak only to realize there’s no pan to cook it in. Essentials like kitchen paper, dishcloths, aluminum foil, dish soap, and basic seasonings like salt and pepper might not be provided, so add these to your shopping list if needed.

Supermarkets in Ibiza

Hiper Centro

Visit Hiper Centro in Ibiza for a wide variety of groceries, fresh produce, and household goods.

Hiper Centro is a spacious, well-organized supermarket that offers a broad range of products. It features a notable fresh meat and fish section where items can be prepared and packed on request. The store also has an extensive dairy section, an organic department, and products catering to gluten, sugar, and lactose-free diets, as well as vegetarian and vegan options. Alcohol is sold in a separate section where payments are made independently. Hiper Centro has both large branches, such as the one on the road from Ibiza Town to San Antonio, and smaller locations across the island.

Eroski

A familiar supermarket chain with both large and smaller branches scattered throughout Ibiza. The larger stores offer an extensive selection, including a fresh meat and fish section where items can be packed and prepared. They also have a modest organic section and options for vegetarian and vegan shoppers.

Mercadona

Stock up on essentials and local specialties at Mercadona, a favorite shopping spot for Ibiza visitors and locals.

Mercadona is a well-known Spanish supermarket chain with more than 1,630 stores nationwide, four of which are on Ibiza. This supermarket provides a comprehensive range of items, including a fresh meat and fish section where products can be packed and prepared. While Mercadona’s organic section is limited, it compensates with an outdated yet convenient online store that allows you to order groceries and have them delivered directly to your holiday accommodation. Delivery fees are typically around 7 euros.

Lidl

Lidl has three locations on the island and is known for being one of the most budget-friendly options. It’s great for general grocery shopping, though it might lack certain specialty items. For instance, there isn’t a butcher or fresh fish section; instead, these items are pre-packaged. Recently, Lidl has improved its offerings with a decently sized organic section, making it a solid choice for organic items at reasonable prices.

My Tip: I usually do my main shopping at Lidl for essentials like fruit, vegetables, water, and household items. For harder-to-find products such as soy yogurt, tofu and seitan, coriander, granola, herbs, and coconut milk, I prefer visiting Hiper Centro.

Aldi

Aldi, which opened its doors on Ibiza in 2019, has quickly become a popular choice. Familiar to many visitors from Belgium and the Netherlands, Aldi is known for its wide range of products at affordable prices.

Spar

Surprisingly, Spar supermarkets are also present on the island. There are 12 smaller “express” stores catering mostly to tourists, offering a decent variety of items for quick and convenient shopping.

Suma

With eight smaller supermarkets across Ibiza, Suma offers a quality selection of goods, including a fresh meat and fish section. Some locations even feature freshly prepared sushi, making it an interesting stop for sushi lovers.

Supermarkets Open on Sundays in Ibiza

Arriving on a Sunday and need to stock up before settling into your vacation villa? No worries! Here’s where you can shop on Sundays during the high season:

  • Hiper Centro: Open from 9 am to 2 pm.
  • Lidl in San Antonio and Ibiza Town: Open from 9 am to 3 pm.

Bio Supermarkets in Ibiza

If you’re looking for organic, vegetarian, vegan, or gluten and lactose-free products, Ibiza has several bio supermarkets to explore. Each has its unique charm, but my personal favorite is Bio Express on the road from Ibiza Town to Santa Eulalia. Although it’s not a huge store, Bio Express has a good variety of items, including fresh vegetables and fruits, vegetarian and vegan products, dairy alternatives, dry organic foods, and even non-food products like cleaning supplies and eco-friendly cosmetics. They also offer dietary supplements, superfoods, and protein powders.

Other Bio Supermarkets to Check Out:

  • Ibiza Town: Bio Organic, Savia, Natural Eivissa
  • Santa Eulalia: Natural Point, Herbodietetica Raíces
  • San Antonio: Herbarius

Embrace the Experience

Exploring Ibiza’s supermarkets isn’t just about filling up your cart—it’s part of the adventure that makes your stay on the island even more enriching. Take the time to discover unique products and flavors, and enjoy crafting meals that add a special touch to your holiday. With the stunning backdrop of Ibiza, even a simple meal becomes something extraordinary. Happy shopping and even happier cooking!
