Yes, there are sharks in Ibiza’s waters, but don’t let that put you off your holiday swim! Blue sharks (some reaching seven feet long) have been spotted near popular swimming spots, including Calo des Moltons in northern Ibiza. While sightings occasionally lead to beach closures, encountering a shark while swimming is incredibly rare – most stay well away from the shoreline. The Mediterranean around Ibiza is home to several shark species including makos, but attacks are virtually unheard of, and in my 15 years of swimming in these gorgeous turquoise waters, I’ve never seen one (though I’d quite like to from a safe distance!).
